Church to present musical 'Dreams' for free on May 11

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4100 St. Johns Lane, Ellicott City, will present the musical Dreams at 7:30 p.m. May 11.

The production, which features a cast of 41 singers and dancers from the Encore Show Choir of Salt Lake University Institute of Religion in Utah, includes popular music and Broadway numbers, as well as sacred songs, videos and dance.

Beth Shalom provides sign-language services

Beth Shalom Congregation, a Conservative congregation, will offer sign-language interpreted Shabbat evening services for deaf and hearing-impaired people today and on the last Friday of each month, except in June and July.

Services begin at 8 p.m. at 8070 Harriet Tubman Lane, Columbia.

A Sabbath Gathering for prospective members will be held at 6 p.m. May 8 at the home of Rabbi Susan Grossman. A light dairy meal will be provided.

Poplar Springs church slates Spring Fair Sunday

Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, 915 East Watersville Road, Mount Airy, will hold a Spring Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Lunch will feature homemade soups and sandwiches. Flowers and baked goods will be for sale.

Proceeds will support a missions team that plans to travel to Bosnia in July.

Meditative circle dances will be taught at library

Dances of Universal Peace, meditative circle and partner dances based on Sufi and other traditions, will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the meeting room of the Glenwood library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville.

Peabody showcase set May 15 in Columbia

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia will present the final program in its 2003-2004 season, "A Peabody Preparatory Showcase," at 7 p.m. May 15 at Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way, Columbia.

The program will feature advanced students, ages 8 to 18, from the Peabody Preparatory.

A post-concert reception is planned.

Tickets are $12 in advance; $10 for students. A $3 surcharge will be applied to tickets purchased at the door. Patron tickets, which help support the series, are $25.

Alleluias chorus to hold auditions by appointment

The Alleluias, an interdenominational Christian choral group based in Howard County, will hold auditions for singers by appointment.

Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays. A keyboardist is also needed.

Journeys Community theme is on silence

The theme for this weekend's Journeys Community service at 10 a.m. Sunday is "The Language of Silence."

Journeys Community services are held in the auditorium on the second floor of Vantage House Life Care Retirement Community, 5400 Vantage Point Road, in Town Center, Columbia.
