Patricia Ellen Bearman Wanner, an office manager and longtime church volunteer, died Tuesday at Keswick Multi-Care Center in North Baltimore of complications from cancer. She was 74 and formerly lived in Mays Chapel.
The Indiana native moved to Baltimore after graduating from high school. She was employed at Prudential Insurance Co.'s Padonia Road office for 44 years, working her way up from a secretary to office manager before retiring in 1993, said her stepdaughter, Charlotte J. Wanner of Rodgers Forge.
She married C. Charles Wanner II in 1969. They first lived in Baltimore but moved to Mays Chapel, where they lived for 18 years.
Charlotte Wanner said her stepmother enjoyed reading and traveling but was most dedicated to volunteer work. She served as an officer of the St. Mary's Guild at the St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Baltimore and worked in the church's homeless shelter.
"She would cook meals for very hungry men," Ms. Wanner said.
After retiring, Mrs. Wanner and her husband also cooked meals at Ronald McDonald House for five years, her stepdaughter said, and volunteered at Keswick's clinic. He helped patients, and she did office work, Ms. Wanner said.
Mrs. Wanner moved to Keswick in 2001 after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. She had survived three melanomas as well as breast cancer, Ms. Wanner said.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. May 14 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 2013 St. Paul St. Donations can be made to the church.
In addition to her husband and stepdaughter, she is survived by a cousin.
