Two men were fatally shot yesterday in apparently unrelated homicides in the city - the latest an unidentified man whose body was found last night inside a car parked on a street in Northwest Baltimore, city police said.
About 10:30 p.m., Northwestern District officers found a car parked in the 3000 block of Hanlon Ave. with its engine running. Inside was a man slumped over the steering wheel, dead from gunshot wounds to the chest.
In the other killing, a 19-year-old man died early yesterday at Johns Hopkins Hospital after he was shot several times while standing in front of an East Baltimore carryout.
About 1 a.m., police responding to a report of a man shot in the 2700 block of E. Monument St. found the victim, Kareem J. Peterkin, 19, of the 500 block of N. East Ave., lying on the sidewalk in front of a rowhouse.
Witnesses told police he had been seen standing in front of a carryout along the block and was shot while attempting to flee a gunman. A motive was unknown.
Anyone with information about either shooting was urged to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
