Purim carnival

Put on your zaniest costume and join the Purim celebration at Har Sinai Congregation Sunday. A Purim carnival will take place with games, a climbing wall, a moon bounce with slide and more. Refreshments will be served, including hamantaschen (Purim pastries). The event is open to all, and visitors are encouraged to come in costume.

School 33 art event

School 33 Art Center honors Black History Month Saturday with a workshop called "West African Adinkra Symbols." Artist Adrianne Sanchez will lead the class, teaching about the intricate symbols and how to decorate with them. Participants will select and transfer the symbol of their choice onto fabric squares, then decorate with colors and beads. Or participants may bring a cotton T-shirt to the class to decorate with symbols.

The workshop runs from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at School 33 Art Center, 1427 Light St. The program is appropriate for children ages 7 and up, teens and adults. Free. Reservations required. Call 410-396-4641 or visit

Abu the Flutemaker

Watch as one man turns trash into treasure tomorrow at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. Abu the Flutemaker will entertain all as he turns baseball bats and sardine cans and porch columns into musical instruments such as saxophones, miniature pianos and drums. Abu gets the audience involved in the action, too, letting kids join in a musical performance.

BSO's 'Cinderella'

Enjoy a retelling of the classic fairytale Cinderella with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Landis and Company's Enchantment Theatre at two shows Saturday at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Conductor Lara Webber leads the BSO in music from Prokofiev's ballet Cinderella, while Enchantment Theatre brings the characters to life. The shows are part of the symphony's Musical Adventures Series and are geared to children ages 3 and up.
