Balto. County police seeking suspect in fatal stabbing

Baltimore County police were searching yesterday for a man they described as the live-in boyfriend of a 46-year-old Woodlawn woman found fatally stabbed in her apartment Friday.

A warrant has been issued charging Darren Lee Johnson, 42, of the 1000 block of Charing Martin Court with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, Tina Marie Washington, police said.

Police found Washington, a special-education teaching assistant at a private school in Baltimore, after relatives reported that they hadn't heard from her in several days.

Johnson, who is known to frequent West Baltimore, was seen after the killing in Washington's Honda Civic, police said, adding that the car was found yesterday in Baltimore.

Detectives have not determined a motive for the killing, said Officer Shawn Vinson, a county police spokesman.

Johnson received a year of probation for drug possession in 1987 and was found guilty of stealing a car in 1986, according to court records.

Washington worked with fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders at the Children's Guild in Northeast Baltimore, where news of the killing stunned staff members, said Andrew Ross, Children's Guild president. "She had a tremendously positive influence on the kids here," he said.

Anyone with information about Johnson is asked to call police at 410-307-2020 or, for a possible reward, Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP (866-756-2587).
