Owings Mills wins as Fishel remains perfect


Eric Fishel used a victory at the 171-pound-class final to improve to 33-0 and propel Owings Mills to a 75 1/2 -point win in the Baltimore County wrestling tournament yesterday at Pikesville.

With Rob Cooper (119), Jon Demchick (135) and Sasha Binder (140) also prevailing, the Eagles beat Overlea, 230 1/2 -155. Eastern Tech took third (119 1/2 ).

"Every year our team's goal is always to win the state title," said Fishel, who defeated Shane Peddicord of Eastern Tech, 8-3. "This brings us one step closer."

Cooper, a defending state champion, delivered what was perhaps the most impressive finals victory, with a 15-5 major decision over defending state champion DJ Scarponi of Hereford.

Binder improved to 31-0 with a 15-9 decision over Catonsville's Alex Broadwater. Demchick scored an 8-4 decision over Parkville's Kyle England.
