Pa. track joins in purchase of Rosecroft

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The owners of Philadelphia Park will join with Laurel veterinarian Mark Ricigliano to purchase Rosecroft Raceway, according to a filing made yesterday to the Maryland Racing Commission.

Greenwood Racing Inc. was formed in 1989 and bought Philadelphia Park, a thoroughbred track just north of the city, in 1990, according to the company's Internet site. Greenwood also owns and operates Freehold Raceway, a harness track in central New Jersey, in a partnership with Penn National Gaming Inc.

No other terms of the filing were available yesterday.

In accepting Ricigliano's November bid, the Cloverleaf Standardbred Owners Association stipulated that he seek a minority partner to own between 20 and 30 percent of Rosecroft, a harness track in Prince George's County.

Ricigliano owns Laurel-based LightWave Communications, which provides local phone services. He could not be reached for comment. Greenwood Racing officials also could not be reached for comment.
