Produce distributor getting state, county help filling positions

The Maryland Job Service, a division of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, and the Howard County One-Stop Employment Center are assisting Taylor Farms in recruiting employees.


Taylor Farms, a large distributor of fresh produce, is relocating from Greencastle, Pa., to Annapolis Junction, and has 140 positions available.

Recruiters will be available to talk with applicants from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the One-Stop Center, 7060 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia. Sales and service representatives, administrative assistants and forklift and machine operators are needed immediately.

Free session scheduled on money management

Howard Community College will sponsor a free seminar on personal money management, "Step to Financial Fitness," from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 100 of the college's Instructional Lab Building, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.

W. Talbot Daley, senior vice president of Legg Mason Wood Walker Inc., will discuss investment in today's market. Free sessions on "How to Scam Proof Your Life," "Taking Control of Your Credit," "Paycheck to Paycheck Blues" and other topics will be offered.

Agricultural meeting slated at Lisbon Fire Hall

The Howard County Mid-Winter Agriculture Meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lisbon Fire Hall, 1330 Route 94, Lisbon. A light dinner will be served.


The meeting, which will include training for farmers who need nutrient applicator vouchers, is sponsored by the Howard Soil Conservation District, Maryland Cooperative Extension -- Howard County and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Farmers who attend the meeting will be eligible for the applicator vouchers, which are required for those who apply agricultural nutrients to 10 or more acres. The meeting will also renew vouchers for farmers who received them in the past. The vouchers are valid for three years.
