Alice May Colgan, a homemaker and former high school teacher, died Feb. 6 at Oak Crest Village in Parkville, where she had lived since 1996. She was 101 and formerly resided for many years in Baltimore's Govans neighborhood.
Born Alice May Manning in Martins Ferry, Ohio, she graduated from high school in Waynesburg, Pa., and in 1923 from Pennsylvania State University. She later studied at Columbia and Duke universities.
She taught at Pennsylvania high schools in Burgettstown, Waynesburg and Mount Lebanon before moving to Baltimore in 1935 at the time of her marriage to Edward Paul Colgan. He died in 1985.
Mrs. Colgan was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. A memorial service was held Wednesday.
Survivors include a niece, Ruth M. Hughes of Washington, Pa., and a great-niece, Susan Kellam of Pittsburgh.
