Hopkins tops McDaniel; home win streak at 24

Johns Hopkins remained in sole possession of second place in the Centennial Conference and extended its home winning streak to 24 games with a 54-46 victory over McDaniel yesterday at Goldfarb Gymnasium.

Freshman forward Danny Nawrocki scored 15 points for the Blue Jays (14-6, 10-4).

McDaniel (6-15, 3-11) led 32-31 with 8:53 remaining, but Hopkins went on a 16-4 run to take a 13-point lead.

Kyle O'Connor led the Green Terror with 12 points.

North Carolina-Wilmington 64, Towson 51: The host Seahawks (11-11, 7-7 Colonial Athletic Association) started the second half with a 12-4 run and used a 13-0 surge late in the period to secure the win. Taylor Lay scored 21 points to lead the Seahawks. Jamaal Gilchrist scored 16 for Towson (6-16, 3-10).

Keystone 74, Hood 63: The Giants (8-16) hit 17 of 20 free throws and had five players score in double figures. The visiting Blazers (10-11) could not dig themselves out of a 14-point second-half deficit despite 19 points from Santo Provenzano.

Marymount 70, St. Mary's 57: Ed Carraiwas led visiting Marymount (7-15, 5-6 Capital Athletic Conference) with 19 points and 14 rebounds. St. Mary's (7-13, 5-6) got 16 points from Matt Miller.

York 64, Goucher 60: Kenny Fass (18 points) broke a 60-60 tie with a layup with two minutes left to put the visiting Spartans (10-11, 7-4 CAC) up for good.

Garrett Smith led the Gophers (11-10, 5-6) with 17 points.

Gwynedd-Mercy 109, Villa Julie 80: Badou Gaye scored 18 points for the Grifins (19-2) in their easy win over the host Mustangs (9-15).

Villa Julie's Anthony Fitzgerald led all scorers with 29.

Haverford 94, Washington C. 90: Jeremy Bass (30 points) made two free throws with eight seconds left in the second overtime for a 93-90 lead as the visiting Fords (9-11, 7-7 Centennial) beat the Shoremen (8-13, 5-9) in Chestertown.

Jonathan Webb led Washington College with 25 points.

Women

Boston University 59, UMBC 40: The host Retrievers (1-19, 1-10 America East Conference) missed their first eight shots and fell behind 22-5. They cut the deficit to three in the second half, but the Terriers (13-7, 8-3) responded with a 20-4 run.

Adrienne Norris scored a game-high 16 points for Boston.

Marymount 63, St. Mary's 52: Randi Jones scored 16 points for the host Saints (19-3, 9-2 CAC), while Mary Kate Lenz scored 17 for the Seahawks (5-16, 2-9).

Salisbury 104, Gallaudet 40: The host Sea Gulls (12-10, 6-5, CAC) nearly doubled Gallaudet's rebounding total and shot 59 percent in the second half.

Pittsburgh-Greensburg 86, Frostburg State 74: Annie Sral scored 34 points and Pittsburgh-Greensburg (19-4, 9-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference) dominated the second half, outscoring visiting Frostburg (13-9, 4-5) 47-31. Tracey Little led Frostburg with 19 points and 17 rebounds.

Goucher 86, York 72: The host Gophers (12-8, 6-5 Capital Athletic Conference) never trailed in beating the Spartans (13-8, 7-4) for the first time in their last 18 tries.
