Scherle, Loyola women turn tables on Rider, 64-57


The Loyola Greyhounds avenged last month's big defeat at the hands of Rider, claiming a 64-57 women's basketball victory over the Broncs last night at Reitz Arena.

Loyola (10-10, 6-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) had fallen at Rider (4-16, 2-9) by 73-55 the first week in January.

Loyola was led by sophomore Katie Scherle with 16 points.

Virginia 64, Maryland 51: Brandi Teamer led all scorers with 21 points as the host Cavaliers (11-10, 5-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) cruised past the visiting Terps (13-8, 5-5).

Virginia trailed 24-19 before shooting 45.2 percent from the field in the second half to pull away.

Chrissy Fisher led Maryland with 13 points.

Old Dominion 68, Towson 64: Monique Coker registered her 11th double double of the season - 28 points and 17 rebounds - to power the visiting Monarchs (14-6, 9-1 Colonial Athletic Association) past the Tigers (8-11, 0-10).

Kacy O'Brien led Towson with 25 points.

Washington College 72, Philadelphia Biblical 60: Karen Simos scored her 1,000th career point to highlight the win for the Shorewomen (5-14) in Langhorne, Pa.

McDaniel 66, Dickinson 43: The host Green Terror (17-2, 13-0 Centennial Conference) went on a 33-6 scoring run that carried over from the first half to the second in downing the Red Devils (8-8, 6-6 ) at the Gill Center.

College of Notre Dame 68, Trinity 55: Julia Bachman scored 13 points and had a career-high 19 rebounds to help send the host Gators (10-7, 3-4 Atlantic Women's Colleges Conf.) past the Tigers (6-9, 1-4).


Mount St. Mary's 77, Long Island University 73: Kiel Butler hit his only three-pointer with 1:07 remaining in overtime to lift the host Mount (5-13, 3-7 Northeast Conference).

Hood 87, Villa Julie 82: The visiting Blazers (9-9) - led by Santo Provenzano's 26 points - won their first overtime game in four tries this season. The game went double overtime.
