Capital Gazette wins special Pulitzer Prize citation for coverage of newsroom shooting that killed five



On February 4, 2004, JOSEPH STANLEY SUFCZINSKI, age 79, born March 6, 1924, son of the late Frank Adam and Sophia Helinski Sufczinski. A decorated Veteran of the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Joseph was a tech 5 radio operator and marksman in Battery D of the 467th Coast Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. He served June 1942 to December 1945 earning the Good Conduct Medal, the European Campaign Medal with Silver Service Star and the WWII Victory Medal. Survived by nephew Frank W. Sufczinski of Woodbine, niece Sharon Beck of Eldersburg and niece Barbara Jaggers of Tucson, AZ. Also survived by ten great-grandnieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Saturday, from 9:30 to 10:45 A.M. at BRADLEY-ASHTON-MATTHEWS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2134 Willow Spring Road (at the corner of Dundalk Ave.), where a prayer service will be held at 10:45 A.M. Interment St. Stanilaus Cemetery.
