Grand illusions

We know that magic is just an illusion, but we're still fascinated. Illusionist Lyn Dillies presents "The Magic of Lyn" Sunday at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts in Owings Mills.

Dillies made magic history in 2000 when she became the first illusionist to make two live Asian elephants appear in an open pasture in New Bedford, Mass. This unprecedented feat earned her recognition from the Society of American Magicians.

The Gordon Center show is not recommended for children ages 6 and under.

"The Magic of Lyn" is at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts, 3506 Gwynnbrook Ave., Owings Mills. $18. Call 410-356-SHOW or visit

Pets and comedy

Animals swinging on bars and pushing each other in carriages may seem more like something you'd see on a TV commercial than on a stage in Annapolis. But maybe you've never seen the "Comedy and Pet Theatre" show by Gregory Popovich and his cast of dogs and cats.

Popovich, a former circus performer and juggler, presents a family show of comedy, juggling and vaudeville Saturday at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. Popovich, a former member of the Great Moscow Circus Group and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, has been performing since he was 14 years old.

Popovich began incorporating his kitten into his stage act in the mid-1990s, and soon was rescuing animals from shelters and putting them in his show. At the Maryland Hall shows, $2 of each ticket will be donated to the Anne Arundel County SPCA.

The show is at 1 p.m. and at 7 p.m. Saturday at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, 801 Chase St., Annapolis. $20; $15 children, seniors and Maryland Hall members. Call 410-263-5544 or visit www
