City man identified as victim in killing behind Poe home
City police identified 37-year-old Kelly Dillon yesterday as the man fatally shot behind the historic home of poet and horror writer Edgar Allan Poe in West Baltimore on Wednesday night.
Dillon, of the 900 block of W. Lexington St., was found fatally shot in the 200 block of Amity St. - near the Poe house and the Poe Homes public housing complex - by officers responding to 911 calls reporting gunfire about 5:50 p.m., police said.
In an unrelated homicide, police named Antonio Coleman, 24, of the 800 block of N. Montford Ave. as the man fatally shot while driving a car in the 900 block of Somerset Ave. on Tuesday night.
Anyone with information about the shootings is urged to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
Republican to announce candidacy for 7th District
Antonio P. Salazar, a Republican from Ellicott City and deputy general counsel for Provident Bank, plans to announce tomorrow his candidacy for Maryland's 7th District congressional seat - the seat held by Baltimore Democrat Elijah E. Cummings.
Salazar has scheduled announcements in Northwest Baltimore at 10:30 a.m., in Catonsville at the Candle Light Inn restaurant at 1:30 p.m., and in Columbia at the Swansfield Neighborhood Center at 4:30 p.m.
The 7th District covers most of West Baltimore, western Baltimore County and Howard County from Ellicott City to Lisbon and the North Laurel area.
Candlelight concert of Mozart's music planned
A candlelight concert of Mozart's music will be presented at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 740 N. Calvert St.
The St. Ignatius Quartet and guests will perform selections from the Great Mass in C Minor, the Exsultate Jubilate and the opera, Cosi fan Tutte.

Dundalk activist named Humanitarian of the Year
TIMONIUM - Thomas Toporovich, a longtime Dundalk activist, is to be honored today as Humanitarian of the Year by the Police Assistance and Relief Fund of Baltimore County during a breakfast at the Holiday Inn.
Toporovich, 73, was chosen for his "outstanding record of contributing to police activities," according to his citation. He is one of the founders of the county Police and Community Relations Council and served as its first president in 1967. He also linked communities and police through drug education programs and serves on the Dundalk Precinct's advisory council.
Called the "unofficial mayor of Dundalk," Toporovich said the relief fund assists police officers and families who face sudden financial difficulties. The fund is supported by private donations.
Red Cross to hold blood drive at Charlestown
CATONSVILLE - Responding to Maryland's blood shortage, the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Wednesday at Charlestown Retirement Community.
The drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the John Erickson Conference Center. Charlestown is at 719 Maiden Choice Lane.

Loch Raven mini-library to extend its hours
LOCH RAVEN - Starting next week, the Loch Raven mini-library will extend its hours on Mondays and Wednesdays, when it will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The library, at 1046 Taylor Ave., is an offshoot of the Towson library that relies heavily on volunteer staffing. Hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays will remain 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Baltimore County Executive James T. Smith Jr. and community leaders will mark the new hours by reading to preschoolers at 11 a.m. Monday. The change in hours is a response to comments Smith heard at a Renaissance Roundtable Meeting last month in Hillendale.
