Rebuilding Together accepts applications for help with repairs
Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April/Sukkot in April Howard County, a nonprofit home rehabilitation program, is accepting applications from elderly, disabled and low-income homeowners for free assistance with home repairs and other maintenance projects.
The organization works with sponsors and volunteers to provide a warm, dry, safe environment for homeowners in need. Work will be completed during the last weekend in April.

Presentation will discuss adolescent depression
The Behavioral Mental Health Subcommittee of the Special Education Community Advisory Committee of Howard County will sponsor a presentation on "Adolescent Depression and Suicide Prevention" from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 5 at the offices of the Mental Health Authority, 4785 Dorsey Hall Drive, Suite 111, Ellicott City.

Commission will hold talk on desegregation
The Howard County Brown vs. Board of Education Planning Commission will present a panel discussion, "Remembering Desegregation," at 7 p.m. Thursday at Locust United Methodist Church, 8105 Martin Road, at Freetown Road in Columbia.
Alumni of Harriet Tubman High School will participate in a panel discussion, and leaders of the community from 1954 to 1969 will attend.
The event is co-sponsored by the Howard County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Howard County Center of African American Culture.

HC DrugFree plans program on 'Senior Week'
HC DrugFree, a partnership of parents, schools, county agencies and community organizations addressing teen substance abuse, will present "Senior Week in Ocean City," a program in the organization's annual speaker series, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in the Oakland Mills High School cafeteria.
An Ocean City police officer and a lifeguard will talk about keeping teens safe during the traditional end-of-year celebrations in Ocean City.
Parents will receive information on how to prepare their high school seniors and how to monitor them.
Registration is not required. In the event that schools are closed because of inclement weather, the program will be held Feb. 4.

Group matches parents of special-needs children
Parent to Parent of Howard County matches parents of special-needs children for support.
Parents who feel that they have valuable knowledge and would like to share it with other parents are offered training to become mentors, and then will be matched with parents in need of support.
Training will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. April 21 in Columbia.
