The Carroll County Farm Museum is offering traditional arts classes this winter.

The classes include:
Chair caning: from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 3, 4 and 5 (three-session class). The cost is $60. Students should take a refinished, ready-to-cane chair. The ideal chair for a beginner consists of 75 to 100 1/4 -inch holes.
Spinning: from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 7. The cost is $20. Wheels are available for the first two to register; other students must furnish their wheels.
Open-hearth cooking: from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 7. The cost is $35.
Powder horn making: from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 7. The cost is $45.
Rug hooking: from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28 (four-session class). The cost is $60, plus a material fee of $25 for hook, linen and binding.
Basket making: Students of all levels will make a medium tote from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 7 and Feb. 28. The cost is $35. Intermediate/advanced levels will make a more difficult double spiral cats head basket from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 14. The cost is $50.
American folk art painting: from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 7 to make a fraktur. The cost is $35. Fruit medley plaques will be made from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, March 16, 23 and 30 (three-session class). The cost is $55.
Tinsmithing: from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 7 and 21 and March 6. The cost is $45.
Wood carving: Flat carving hearts and flowers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 7. The cost is $65. Flat carving a cherub from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 14. Students will carve an 8-inch by 10-inch winged Victorian cherub called "Good Luck Tole Cherub" with drape. The cost is $65.
Scherenschnitte: from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 14. The cost is $35. Students will learn Pennsylvania-German paper cutting.
Theorem painting: from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 14. The cost is $60. Theorem painting is the process of applying oil paints on velvet with brush and stencil and freehand painting.
