UMBC falls to New Hampshire, stays winless

The UMBC women's basketball team fell to 0-14 last night, allowing four New Hampshire players to score in double figures in a 65-54 loss to the visiting Wildcats at RAC Arena.

The Retrievers have lost 15 in a row dating to last season's loss to St. Francis (Pa.) in the Northeast Conference tournament final.

Ebony Woods led New Hampshire (7-7, 3-2 America East) with 20 points, including 12 in the first half when the Wildcats built a 21-8 run to erase an early Retrievers lead.

UMBC, 0-4 against America East opponents in its first season in the league, trailed 29-19 at halftime and fell behind by as many as 16 in the second half before rallying. Maria Brown's three-pointer with 5:50 to play cut New Hampshire's lead to 50-43, but UMBC came no closer.

Goucher 71, Salisbury 68: Stephanie Tolbert scored 27 points and Kate Guggino added 20 to help the visiting Gophers (8-6, 2-3 Capital Athletic Conference) get past the Sea Gulls (9-7, 3-2).

Goucher built a 12-point halftime lead and never trailed in the second half.

Catholic 79, St. Mary's 53: Mary Kate Lenz led all scorers with 16 points, but the Seahawks (4-11, 1-4 Capital Athletic Conference) fell to the visiting Cardinals (11-3, 4-1).

Frostburg State 99, Penn State-Altoona 92: Tracey Little had 23 points and 19 rebounds for the Bobcats (10-5), who outlasted the Lady Lions (2-10) in Altoona, Pa.

Chestnut Hill 56, College of Notre Dame 46: The visiting Griffins (6-6, 2-0 Atlantic Womens Colleges Conference) held the Gators (7-4, 1-2) to 18.2 percent second-half shooting on their way to the victory.
