Gogerty's 4 late points lift UMBC

Rob Gogerty hit a three-pointer with 39 seconds left to break a 56-56 tie and added a free throw 25 seconds later to lift the UMBC men's basketball team to a 60-56 win over New Hampshire in an America East game last night in Durham, N.H.

Gogerty finished with a career-high 20 points, including the final four points scored by the Retrievers (6-10, 3-4).


The Retrievers, who led 33-22 at the half, watched the Wildcats (5-12, 1-6) go on a 21-6 run to cut UMBC's lead to 47-46 with 10:13 left in the second half.

Blagoj Janev led New Hampshire with 21 points off the bench.


McDaniel 83, Johns Hopkins 75: Alan Hoyt (18 points) made a three-pointer with 15:24 left in the second half for his 1,000th career point as the host Green Terror (5-10, 2-6 Centennial Conference) defeated the Blue Jays (10-4, 6-2) in overtime.

With 1,008 points, Hoyt became the 17th player in the program's history to reach the milestone.

The win ended a six-game losing streak and was the first for McDaniel in 12 tries. McDaniel's last win against the Blue Jays was in 1997.

McDaniel trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half and was 10 points down with 4:26 left in regulation before going on a 10-0 run to the finish.

Alvernia 96, Villa Julie 75: Alvernia's Ray Strickland and Villa Julie's Wade Henninger each scored 25, but the Crusaders (12-3) downed the visiting Mustangs (7-11).

Alvernia scored 35 points off turnovers and got 21 points from its bench.

Haverford 92, Washington College 74: The Fords (6-8, 4-4 Centennial) - led by Jeremy Bass with 24 points - opened the second half with a 24-9 run to pull away from the visiting Shoremen (5-10, 2-6).

Kyle Stem led Washington with 22 points on eight-of-16 shooting from the field and six of six from the line.


Goucher 68, Salisbury 65: Junior Garrett Smith had 20 points and 10 rebounds in his first start as the visiting Gophers (9-6, 3-2 Capital Athletic Conference) downed the Sea Gulls (3-11, 0-5).

Sean Whittaker led Salisbury with 18, and Ray Williams added 16.
