Junior center Derrick Goode (Archbishop Spalding) rebounded a missed shot and hit a short jumper in the lane as time expired to lead Towson to a 57-55 Colonial Athletic Association victory over league-leading North Carolina Wilmington in the Towson Center on Monday night.
The victory was the Tigers' third straight home win and it ended the Seahawks' four-game winning streak. UNC Wilmington (9-6 overall, 4-2 CAA), the two-time defending league champion, had beaten the Tigers (6-9, 3-3) five times in a row.
With the score tied at 55-55, a blocked shot by sophomore Lawrence Hamm (Harrisburg H.S./Harrisburg, Pa.) gave the Tigers the ball for the last shot. Freshman guard Mike Green (Franklin Learning Center/Philadelphia, Pa.) drove the right side and missed a short jumper with two seconds left. Goode grabbed the rebound and hit a short jumper in the lane that rolled around the rim and dropped through the net as the buzzer sounded, giving the Tigers the win.
Goode finished the game with six points and six rebounds.
