American women top Navy in 2nd half


Maile Shimoda led the Navy women's basketball team with a season-high 10 points and Adrienne Roseti added nine as the Midshipmen fell to visiting American, 51-42, last night.

Navy (6-10, 0-2 Patriot League) held a 16-13 lead at halftime, but the Eagles (7-7, 2-0) opened the second half by scoring nine straight points to jump in front 22-18 with 15 minutes to play in the game.

Navy got as close as four points several times over the remainder of the game, the last at 44-40 with 1:45 left after a basket by Nikki Curtis. American converted five of its next six free throws to put the game away.

Johns Hopkins 95, Haverford 39: Four Blue Jays (10-1, 5-0) scored in double figures in defeating the visiting Fords (1-9, 0-4) in a Centennial Conference game.

Trista Snyder had 14 points for the Blue Jays to lead all scorers, and Maureen Myers and Amanda Leese scored 12 apiece.

Gettysburg 78, Washington College 62: Liz Smith scored a team-high 16 points and Yianna Patronas added 14, but the host Shorewomen (3-8, 1-5) were overrun by the visiting Bullets (5-9, 2-5) in the Centennial Conference.

Bowie State 69, Johnson C. Smith 65: Rachill Robinson finished with 21 points and eight rebounds while Allyson Hardy added 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs (7-8, 4-5) defeated the host Lady Golden Bulls (8-7, 3-2) in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association game.

McDaniel 94, Bryn Mawr 24: Kelly Cramp, Jacqueline Pundt and Theresa Hess scored 11 points apiece as the Green Terror (9-2, 6-0) rolled past the visiting Owls (1-10, 0-7).


Bowie State 78, J.C. Smith 70: The Golden Bulls (7-9, 2-3 CIAA) pulled to within 63-62 with 5:20 left before the visiting Bulldogs (13-2, 8-1) went on an 8-0 run to seal the win.

Anton Jenifer and Allen Van Norden each scored 17 points for Bowie.

Johns Hopkins 68, Haverford 61: Matt Righter scored a career-high 22 points and hit six free throws down the stretch to power the host Blue Jays (9-2, 5-0 Centennial) past the Fords (4-7, 2-3) for their sixth straight win.

Swarthmore 82, McDaniel 66: Jim Dalton scored a career-high 22 points and Matt Gustafson added 20 to power the Garnet (5-7, 2-3 Centennial) past the host Green Terror (4-8, 1-4).

Washington College 77, Gettysburg 68: Kyle Stem scored a career-high 31 points as the host Shoremen (4-8, 1-4) downed the Bullets (6-6, 2-3) for the first time in seven years.

Their last win, 74-65, over the Bullets was on Jan. 25, 1997.
