Truck carrying radioactive dye overturns on I-70

A pickup truck carrying radioactive medical dye overturned on Interstate 70 yesterday, causing traffic to back up in both directions between New Market and Mount Airy.

State police in Frederick said the accident occurred about 9:25 a.m. when driver Herbert Graham, 48, who was traveling west on I-70, drove onto the median and hit an embankment. The vehicle overturned.

Authorities said nothing leaked out of the containers that were loaded on the 2002 Ford Ranger pickup, but that hazardous-materials teams were brought out as a precaution. Graham was not injured.
