EMERY "SWEDE" LARSON was a longtime Baltimore County resident who made numerous contributions to our community. In the late 60's he organized the Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Lacrosse League, which to date has taught thousands of kids. Professionally Swede was a salesman, who started his career in the corrugated business at Baltimore Box. He ended his "active" career at Goodwill Industries, where he helped employ many disabled and handicapped people through contracts with local businesses that could benefit from their special talents. Swede was an avid sports fan, which started in his early years at Yale, where he captained his football, basketball, and lacrosse teams. He continued his love of sports by supporting all Baltimore teams and actively attending games whenever he could whether professional or scholastic. The love of the game was what brought him to the field; the competitor in him was what excited him and brought him back time after time. On December 30, 2003, Emery E. (Swede) Larson, Jr. died of complications from a stroke. He was 79 years old. Beloved husband of the late Doris R. Larson, loving brother of Mary Alice Dean and Mercedes Richards, beloved father of Emery (Chip) Larson III, the late Christopher R. Larson, Carol M. Larson, and Catherine L. Hatfalvi. A Memorial Service in his memory will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 10, 2004 at the Towson Presbyterian Church, 400 W. Chesapeake Avenue, Towson, MD 21204. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a memorial in his honor at the church.
