A Catonsville man died yesterday after being shot in the head Monday night at a gas station while his 6-year-old son sat nearby in their car, Baltimore County police said.
Heath Therone Hamilton, 33, of the 100 block of Rock Glen Road was found with a gunshot wound to the head about 10 p.m. at a Shell station in the 5300 block of Edmondson Ave. near the city line and a few blocks from his home, police said.
It is unclear what -- if anything -- the child saw before, during or after the shooting, said Bill Toohey, a county police spokesman.
Hamilton's wife arrived at the scene after the shooting and picked up her son, Toohey said.
Hamilton died at Maryland Shock Trauma Center about 8:30 a.m. yesterday, police said.
Investigators have few leads in the case; they have no suspects and know of no motive.
Toohey said police had no information yesterday that Hamilton was involved in any activity that would link him to the shooting.
Police also said little serious crime has been reported near the Ten Hills Shell station.
A woman who answered the telephone there yesterday said she did not know of recent crime problems and didn't know much about the shooting.
Anyone with information about Hamilton or the shooting is asked to Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-756-2587.
Callers may remain anonymous and might be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
The killing is the third homicide in the county this year, police said.
A Baltimore man was shot in Rosedale on New Year's Day, and a 15-month-old Essex boy died Saturday after being shaken by his stepfather, police said.
