Fallfest opens today

Westminster Fallfest 2003 begins today at the Westminster City Playground off Longwell Avenue.

Billed as "the biggest charitable event of Carroll County," the festival supports designated local charities with proceeds earned during the four-day event.

The 25th annual festival continues through Sunday with rides, games, food, vendors and entertainment as follows:

TODAY: 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

4 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Kid's Court open, scarecrow making, Super Ride Night ($12), bingo, petting zoo and pony rides, Bobby Plunkert & Real Country concert.

7 p.m.: Parade Float Competition awards.

TOMORROW: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

6 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Kid's court, scarecrow making, amusement rides, bingo, petting zoo and pony rides, Ashley Marie & Family concert.

6 p.m. to midnight: Midnight Madness Shopping downtown at participating businesses.

SATURDAY: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Super Ride Matinee ($12), AACA Gettysburg Region Antique Cars.

10 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Craft and commercial vendors, Maryland Goldwings Motorcycle Club, petting zoo and pony rides, nonprofit exhibits, Call for Coats (Shepherd's Staff will accept gently used winter coats for the needy).

10 a.m. to 10 p.m.: Amusement rides, scarecrow making, Kids' Court.

11 a.m. to noon: Former Baltimore Orioles pitcher Dave Johnson will visit the festival for autographs and picture-taking.

7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.: YMCA Fallfest teen dance. Admission is $5, and registration is required.

Longwell Performance Area:

11 a.m.: Westminster Church of God.

Noon: Baltimore/Washington Estonian Community.

1 p.m.: Harvest Community Church.

2 p.m.: Carroll Gymnastic Center.

2:30 p.m.: Patty Neivert School of Dance.

3:30 p.m.: United All-Stars and United Gymnastix.

4:30 p.m.: Boot Scooters.

5 p.m.: Carroll County School for the Performing Arts.

Food Court Stage:

10 a.m.: Paul Seipp.

11:30 a.m.: Mason Dixon Fiddlers.

1:30 p.m.: Karaoke Contest.

4 p.m.: Lew Marshall.

6 p.m.: The Back Pages Band.

SUNDAY: Noon to 6 p.m.

Noon to 6 p.m.: Craft and commercial vendors, nonprofit exhibits, petting zoo and pony rides, amusement rides, scarecrow making, Call for Coats.

Longwell Performance Area:

Noon: Westminster Optimist Football and Cheerleading Association.

1 p.m.: Angel All-Star Cheerleading.

2 p.m.: Carroll County Children's Choir.

2:30 p.m.: Patty Neivert School of Dance.

3:30 p.m. Carroll County Cloggers.

4:30 p.m.: Carroll County School for the Performing Arts.

Food Court Stage:

12:30 p.m.: Damon Foreman in Blue Funk.

4:30 p.m.: Banjo Man.

Parking is available downtown, at city lots and in the new Longwell garage.

Shuttle service will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday from the County Office Building at 225 N. Center St. to the festival grounds.
