Red Sox update

The Red Sox are 2 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East, and 1 1/2 ahead of the Seattle Mariners for the wild card. Boston's five-game winning streak ended yesterday, but it still has won 12 of its past 16. The Red Sox took two of three from the Yankees in the Bronx. Boston began September 5-0 for the first time since 1995. Manny Ramirez agitated the clubhouse by missing a medical appointment after claiming to be ill, but the incident hasn't affected the Red Sox on the field. They continue to lead the league in hitting, totaling 20 runs and 26 hits in the first two games of the Yankees series. Before going 0-for-4 yesterday, David Ortiz was batting .455 (15-for-33) in his past nine games, and had nine homers, 22 RBIs and 17 runs scored in 15 games. The Red Sox are 5-7 against the Orioles this season.
