Oakland has won nine straight games, and 13 of 15, to take a two-game lead on Seattle atop the American League West. The Athletics are 28-16 since the break under first-year manager Ken Macha and have outscored their foes 63-27 during the winning streak. The starters were 6-0 with a 1.93 ERA in seven games before Sunday, despite losing Mark Mulder to a hip injury. Shortstop Miguel Tejada is hot at the right time, with seven homers in his past 12 games, and 24 total. The A's called up shortstop Bobby Crosby (.308, 22 homers, 90 RBIs at Triple-A Sacramento), their first-round draft pick in 2001, to add depth to their playoff roster. Outfielder Jermaine Dye, on an injury rehab assignment, will join the team in Baltimore and could be activated. Oakland is 6-0 against the Orioles, all of its wins coming at home. Five of the six games have been close.
