Bowie State runs wild on W.Va. State

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Junior running backs Caleb Cranke and Julius Jordan both had 100-yard games and the Bowie State offense scored 27 unanswered points as the Bulldogs beat West Virginia State College, 27-7, yesterday in Institute, W.Va.

In the season opener for both teams, Cranke had 109 yards on 21 carries and Jordan added 102 yards on 14 carries to pace a running attack that amassed 330 yards. Both players also scored once, with Cranke's 2-yard run late in the first quarter starting a 27-point run for Bowie State.

Kelvin Collins (52 yards) scored twice during the spurt, which was capped by Jordan's 5-yard touchdown with about 12 minutes left in the third quarter.

The Yellow Jackets had opened the scoring with nine minutes to play in the first quarter when Kerrick Cooper found Kenneth Davis on a 46-yard touchdown pass. But Bowie State's defense held West Virginia State to 176 total yards from that point.
