Winston H. Jones, a retired letter carrier who was the founder and pastor of a Woodlawn church, died of heart failure Tuesday at Northwest Hospital Center. He was 61 and lived in Owings Mills.
Mr. Jones was born and raised in West Baltimore, and was a 1959 graduate of Carver Vocational-Technical High School. He earned an associate's degree in 1986 from Catonsville Community College.
A letter carrier, Mr. Jones walked a regular route for 35 years in Arlington and later Pikesville until his retirement in 1997.
A member for 46 years of Maryland Church of God In Christ in Northwest Baltimore, Mr. Jones became an elder and minister. In 1991, he established and became the first pastor of True Fellowship Church of God In Christ in Woodlawn.
Mr. Jones was a trustee and member of the board of the youth department of the Maryland and East Coast Region of the Churches of God In Christ.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at First Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, 27 S. Caroline St.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ola Jones; two daughters, Sharna N. Jones of Baltimore and Melinda Jones of Randallstown; and four sisters, Christine Holman, Mary Jackson, Rita Baylor and Sandra Molock, all of Baltimore.
