Suzanne Lawrence-Forsberg, 34, who as a cervical cancer survivor and 1990 Miss Texas represented her state in the next year's Miss America Pageant, died Saturday at her home in the town of Bedford, Texas. She had colon cancer for more than three years.
She promoted a "Smiles Against Cancer" program in the Houston area that won her an award at the national event in Atlantic City, N.J., where she was third runner-up.
Later, she started the Climb for the Cure program for people with cancer and their families. It was renamed Taking A Step -- the Suzanne E. Lawrence Forsberg Foundation. She also worked as a television news anchor in Georgia for two years.
