Athletics update

Oakland's rotation is jumbled with left-hander Mark Mulder on the disabled list with a hip injury and Tim Hudson's start being pushed back a few days by a sore hand before he pitched Sunday. Left-hander John Halama could pitch Thursday, the spot Oakland is listing as undecided. Harden is a rookie who's been a big addition given Zito's earlier struggles and the injuries. An Oakland scout watched Hentgen's last start in New York, and he'll receive lots of attention tomorrow. Oakland and Seattle are tied for the West lead and also tied with Boston in the wild-card race. The Orioles and A's had to fly cross-country last night. They've met only three times this season, with Oakland sweeping the Orioles before the break. None of the games was decided by more than two runs. The Orioles were held to three runs and 15 hits. Zito shut them out over eight innings.
