Carrolltown Center plans back-to-school event
Carrolltown Center in Eldersburg will hold a Back-to-School Celebration on Saturday with activities for children and their parents.
The event will feature children's book characters Clifford, Curious George, Spot and Maisey from noon to 4 p.m. in the center court gazebo. Free photos with the costumed characters will be available.
Also, Arena Sport Cards & Games, Little Professor Book Center and Talent Express will have entry forms for a drawing for 20 prizes of four tickets each to see Sesame Street Live: Out of This World Sept. 25 to 28 at 1st Mariner Arena. Entry deadline is Sept. 15.
Three of the winning families will receive a VIP package to meet and greet one of the Sesame Street characters before the show.
Also Saturday, children can try to win tickets to the Sesame Street show from noon to 2 p.m. at the laser toss. If the child's space ship lands in a specially marked black hole, he or she will be eligible to win tickets or other Sesame Street prizes.

Also at the celebration, Marvelous Mayhem will present a comedy and magic show at noon and 3 p.m. on the Peebles court stage. Students from the Sykesville Tae Kwon Do Academy will give a demonstration at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Talent Express students will perform a dance program at 1 p.m., then participate in a Peebles department store fashion show, featuring the latest styles for the fall season.
The mall also has joined with the Shepherd's Staff, a Westminster-area Christian outreach, to collect school supplies for needy children. New school supplies of all kinds can be donated in the Kmart wing of the mall.
Community Banks announces dividend
Community Banks of Harrisburg, Pa., has announced a quarterly cash dividend of 20 cents per share payable Oct. 1 to shareholders of record on Sept. 16.
The dividend is a 17 percent increase over the third quarter of last year.
The bank also reported net income of $10.1 million for the first half of this year and overall deposits of $1.1 billion. Community Banks has two branches in Carroll County.
Stoehr Companies finishes project, secures two others
The Stoehr Companies, with headquarters in Eldersburg, recently completed construction of a Hometown Hearth & Grill store in the Robinson Crossing Shopping Center in Severna Park.
The 3,000-square-foot store opened last month. Hometown Hearth & Grill, a division of Suburban Propane, sells appliances and accessories for the home and yard.
Stoehr also has been awarded a contract to build a 3,000- square-foot store for Nordic Track in the Galleria Center in Tyson's Corner, Va. Completion of the company's newest retail location is expected early next month.
Also, Stoehr was awarded a contract to build a 10,000- square-foot retail center in Baltimore next to Westview Mall, expected to be completed this fall.
