Home Movie Day

Celebrate celluloid Saturday at the first Home Movie Day.

The American Visionary Art Museum is host of the Baltimore arm of the worldwide celebration of amateur film.

Anyone can bring in an 8 mm, Super 8 mm or 16 mm home movie for a screening.

Between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., several films will be selected and shown, so get out your best tape of Grandma doing the hokey-pokey and hope for a viewing.

The event is free and will include educational components as well.

Film archivists will be there to give tips on how to store and preserve those old family treasures.

The American Visionary Art Museum is at 800 Key Highway. For more information, call 410-244-1900 or visit

Help the B&O; Museum 'Raise the Roof'

The February snowstorm was devastating to the B&O; Railroad Museum. Under the heavy weight of the snow, the roundhouse roof caved in on Feb. 17, causing millions of dollars in damage.

In an effort to raise money for the repairs, the museum is teaming up with the Baltimore Orioles for a fund-raising event, "Raise the Roof," at Oriole Park at Camden Yards Wednesday.

Baseball fans can attend a pre-game bullpen party and then watch the O's take on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The bullpen party kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and features a bourbon barbecue beef brisket sandwich, hot dog, pasta salad, popcorn, watermelon, ice cream, soft drinks and draft beer. The Orioles Bird makes a visit to the party, as well. The ballgame begins at 7:05 p.m.

A portion of each ticket sold will be donated to the B&O; Railroad Museum Roundhouse Restoration Fund.

The "Raise the Roof" event takes place Wednesday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Pratt and Eutaw streets. Pre-game bullpen party begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Bullpen Picnic Grove and runs until game time at 7:05 p.m. $45 for bullpen party ticket and game ticket. $15 for game ticket only. Call 410-752-2462, Ext. 220 to purchase tickets.
