Position: Long snapper
Who he is: Signed by the Ravens as a free agent in the offseason, Solwold, 25, was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season during their Super Bowl run. The veteran has brought good karma with him for a while now, having won two state championships in high school, two Rose Bowls with Wisconsin, and last year's Super Bowl. A former quarterback and tight end, Solwold is competing with incumbent Joe Maese for starting long snapper.
On the mental aspect of long snapping: "It's tough, because you're only getting one rep every four downs, so your focus has got to be there. I never get too up or down or too excited. I just grab my lunch pail and go to work."
How he got into long snapping: "It's taken me a long time to get where I'm at. I've had tons of practice. In high school I played quarterback and some tight end, so my coach was like, well just bend down and throw it back between your legs in a spiral."
On reuniting with childhood friend and punter Dave Zastudil: "It's cool, because we grew up together in Ohio. So it's nice seeing little blond Dave out there on the field."
On having five championship rings to wear: "It's crazy. My second and third year of high school, we won it all. My second and third year at Wisconsin, we won the Rose Bowl. And last year with Tampa Bay, my second in the league, we won the Super Bowl. I'm just in the right place at the right time. Must be that Irish in me."
