City police are investigating the death of an unidentified man shortly after midnight yesterday in one of two unrelated shootings on Baltimore streets in about an hour.

Homicide detectives were dispatched to the 1900 block of Perlman Place about 12:40 a.m. in response to a report of a shooting. The victim was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Police know of no motive.

Earlier in the night, an unknown assailant tried to rob two men in an unlicensed taxicab.

At 11:36 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report on Springhill Avenue of two to three gunshots and a male screaming for help.

Ryan Jackson, 18, and Edwin Johnson, 19, told police they had picked up a man at Belair Road and North Avenue. He pulled out a handgun and demanded money as the car approached the 2400 block of Springhill.

According to police, Johnson wrestled with the man and was shot in the head. He was reported in critical but stable condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
