Red Sox update

Fossum is being recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to make the start, then will go to the bullpen. The Red Sox have won four in a row after last night's 9-3 win over Anaheim, and lead Oakland by 1 1/2 games in the American League wild-card race. Will they regret not claiming Seattle Mariners setup man Jeff Nelson on waivers and blocking his trade to the New York Yankees? They didn't want to take on his salary if the Mariners allowed him to leave. They did claim first baseman David McCarty off waivers this week as a late-inning defensive replacement. Lowe's dominance of the Orioles ended Saturday, when he allowed eight hits and five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings and lost, 11-2. These teams have split eight games this season, with the Orioles taking two of three at Camden Yards last week. Wakefield won Sunday's game after allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings.
