Planning session scheduled for 2003 Crop Walk

The North County Crop Walk Recruiter's Rally will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Glen Burnie United Methodist Church.

Churches and organizations in the North County area are invited to send a representative to the rally to receive Crop Walk materials and information.

This year's walk will begin at 1 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church to Pasadena Crossings Shopping Center and return by way of the B&A; Trail.

Money raised by the walk will be used to help stop hunger in the community and around the world through self-help development initiatives. Twenty-five percent of the money will go to the North County Emergency Outreach Network.

Riviera Beach church welcomes new pastor

Community United Methodist Church, Fort Smallwood Road in Riviera Beach, welcomed a new pastor July 1.

The Rev. Douglas E. Fox has been a ministerial member of the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church since 1984. Before joining the Riviera Beach church, he pastored churches and served as a campus minister in New York, North Carolina, Maryland, and most recently at Capital Hill United Methodist Church in Washington.

Fox earned a bachelor's degree in art from SUNY College at Buffalo, and he has completed the course work for a doctorate of ministry in evangelism from Wesley Theological Seminary.

Fox has two grown sons, Neal, who lives in Columbia with his wife and son, and Joel, who sometimes lives in Baltimore and sometimes at the parsonage.

St. Athanasius Church plans crab cake dinner

St. Athanasius Church will have a crab cake dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the church, 4708 Prudence St. in Curtis Bay.

The menu includes crab soup, crab cakes, potato salad, coleslaw, lettuce and tomatoes, iced tea, soft drinks, lemonade, coffee, rye bread, pickled red beets, rolls and butter, and desserts.

The cost is $18 per person; children younger than 12 pay $8. Advance sales only. Carryout is available.
