Security guard charged with stealing $17,000

A 29-year-old security guard at a store in East Baltimore was charged yesterday with robbery -- alleged to have intimidated another store employee into helping him steal $17,000 in store deposits Monday morning, authorities said.

According to city police, a 26-year-old employee of the Family Dollar Store in the 1300 block of E. Fayette St. told officers Monday that she had been robbed of the money in the 2100 block of E. Madison St. while on her way to a bank.

The woman later admitted to detectives that she had been pressured into helping the security guard stage the robbery, according to police.

On Tuesday, detectives recovered most of the missing cash and arrested the security guard, Sean Mayo of the 3600 block of Coronado Road in Baltimore County, police said.
