City worker charged with drug possession

A city employee was arrested yesterday morning after a police officer found him sleeping on the job - in a city truck, with 16 grams of heroin and $1,673 cash in his possession, authorities said.

Thomas Faulkner III, 37, a Department of Transportation employee, was charged with possession of and intent to distribute heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia, said Lt. Ernie Meadows of the Northern District.

Officer Christopher Sullivan was alerted shortly before 7:30 a.m. of a man slumped over in a city truck on the parking lot of a shopping center in the 2800 block of Greenmount Ave., Meadows said.

Sullivan awakened the man, who tried to hide the drugs - contained in plastic bags - under the seat, Meadows said. The heroin was found during a search, Meadows said.
