Haswell Franklin Jr. has been named boys lacrosse coach at Archbishop Spalding, athletic director Lee Dove said.
Franklin, who has an extensive background in lacrosse, was chosen from among two dozen applicants to succeed Walt Blahut.
Blahut led the Cavaliers to three straight Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference titles and a runner-up finish last season before resigning.
"Haswell is well-rounded in lacrosse, knows the MIAA and its coaches and also the local college coaches," said Dove. "We feel that Haswell is up to the challenge of our moving up to the A Conference next year."
Franklin, who played at Gilman and Johns Hopkins, was an assistant to Dave Cottle at Loyola in the mid-1980s and later started the program at Villa Julie before coaching Team Canada in the 1990s. He has been coaching the Team Toyota Club team since 1997.
