Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company's carnival to begin Monday

Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company will hold its annual carnival Monday through Aug. 16 on the firehouse grounds, 1341 N. Main St.

Rides, games and food booths will open at 7 p.m. daily. During carnival week, dinners will be served in the hall starting at 6 p.m. Aug. 13-16. Discounted ride nights will be held Monday, Tuesday, Aug. 14 and 15.


The firefighters' parade will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 13, featuring marching units and fire equipment.

Concerts will be given by Ashley Marie on Monday; the Shades on Tuesday; Just Us on Aug. 13; Iron Ridge on Aug. 14; Bootleg Band on Aug. 15; and South Express on Aug. 16.


The carnival will conclude Aug. 16 with raffle drawings for $3,500 in cash.

Miniature White House and author to visit library

North Carroll library branch, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, will offer:

"Summers Eve Story Time: 1, 2, 3, Count With Me" for all ages (age 3 and younger with an adult) at 6:45 p.m. today.

"Pizza Hut Library Fund-raiser" from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Hampstead Pizza Hut. Face painting will be featured from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The library has coupons to earn 20 percent of sales for children's and young adults programs.

"Author Visit" for teens at 2 p.m. tomorrow will feature Donna Jo Napoli, author of Zel, Spinners and Beast, sharing her writing experiences.

"Falls Road Dance Studio Presents Dr. Seuss" for all ages (younger than age 3 with an adult) at 3 p.m. Friday. Terry Martin's students will perform short skits based on Dr. Seuss stories. Music, dance and audience participation will be included.


North Carroll Book Discussion Group for ages 9 to 12 at 6:45 p.m. Monday. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling will be discussed.

"White House in Miniature" for adults at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Sue Baker has been working with a miniature White House since 2000, traveling around the country showing the White House model and as other dollhouses. She will discuss her experiences, including taking updated photos of the White House for the miniature.

"Live and In Person" at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13, and 9:30 a.m. Aug. 14 for a half-hour visit with Spot. Cameras are welcome.

"Homeschoolers Hour" for ages 4 to 10 at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 14. Children will experience Reader's Theater by reading prepared scripts aloud.

"Introduction to the Internet" for adults at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 and 10 a.m. Aug. 16.

Teen Book Group at 6:45 p.m. Aug. 20 to discuss Lord of the Deep by Graham Salisbury. Registration is required.
