Newcomer profile Lamar Hill
Position: Tight end
College: New Mexico State
Who he is: Signed by the Ravens in May as a rookie free agent, Hill, a journalism major, played football at New Mexico State for only one year. Playing mostly on the Aggies' special teams, Hill blocked two field goals and caught a 30-yard touchdown pass. Hill transferred from Dayton in 2001 after playing basketball at Tyler (Texas) Junior College, where he averaged 18 points and 14 rebounds.
On having Todd Heap as a mentor: "He's like a coach out there. He knows what he's doing, and he's perfected it. John Jones, too. They're great players to watch and learn from."
On training camp competition: "Everybody out here works hard because we're trying to make each other better."
What he does besides football: "I just like to relax and get away from stuff. I'm an outdoors guy. I love to get outside and just enjoy nature."
How New Mexico is different from Maryland: "New Mexico is a much different environment. It's pretty diverse here. I'm from Alabama, though, so it's all a change for me."
What you might not know about him: "I'm a funny guy. I got a good sense of humor. And I love being around people." -
