Mumpower honored for work with those with disabilities

Gordon M. Mumpower Jr., owner of Commercial Insurance Managers Inc. in Columbia, has been named 2003 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year by the Maryland Association of Community Services, a professional organization that works to strengthen agencies supporting people with developmental disabilities in their communities.

He was nominated by Carol A. Beatty, executive director of the Arc of Howard County, a nonprofit offering support services to children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Mumpower has been a member of the Arc's board of directors since 1998 and has chaired the organization's signature fund-raising event, the Chocolate Ball, since its inception in 1997.

Anderson featured speaker at theater conference

B. Jennine Anderson, a director of PCA Group, was the featured speaker at the 27th annual Conference of the League of Historic American Theaters in Miami last month.

Anderson, a certified public accountant, gave a workshop on financial management tools. Her field of expertise is nonprofit organizations and trade associations.

PCA Group, a regional accounting and consulting firm in Columbia, provides services to businesses, trade associations and other nonprofit groups.
