Glen Burnie man seriously injured in fire at house

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A Glen Burnie man was seriously injured yesterday after a fire broke out in the locked bedroom where he was sleeping, Anne Arundel County fire officials said.

Byung Joung Lee had burns over 80 percent of his body but was able to flee the two-story house in the 7800 block of Ritchie Highway with his father's help, said Lt. George Wiseman, a Fire Department spokesman.

He was in critical condition yesterday at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center's burn center.

When the fire broke out about 5:30 a.m., Lee's father kicked down his son's door, allowing the younger man to escape, according to firefighters. A next-door neighbor saw the flames and called 911. Four other family members, including Lee's parents, suffered from smoke inhalation and were taken to other hospitals, Wiseman said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates were available yesterday.
