Bill would provide 2-day amnesty for late parking tickets

The City Council came one step closer last night to adopting an ordinance that would let parking violators pay their overdue parking tickets without penalties.

The council approved a new version of the bill last night and will take a final vote at its meeting next month. The bill proposes a two-day period during which overdue parking tickets can be paid without late fees. The dates of the amnesty have yet to be announced. It prohibits any other such amnesty period for the next 10 years -- a provision, however, that would have no binding effect on future councils.
