A 49-year-old Abingdon man was pronounced dead last night at Harford Memorial Hospital after being pulled from the water near Havre de Grace - an apparent drowning victim, authorities reported.

Members of the Susquehanna Hose Co. dive team found the body of Richard Lewis Grey Jr. about 50 yards from Sand Island around 7:15 p.m., said Assistant Chief Chad Packard.

Grey disappeared while swimming between two anchored boats in the popular area at the mouth of the Susquehanna River, where he had come with his wife, Packard said.
