Families can take twilight paddle


Twilight canoe trips, a family-oriented program to help acquaint paddlers with the natural surroundings on Deer Creek at the Eden Mill Nature Center, are held from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Sept. 30 at the center, 1617 Eden Mill Road, Pylesville.

The center is a nonprofit, environmental education facility staffed by volunteers and their families.

The fee is $4 for center members, $6 for others.

Registration is required.

Wild Week Summer Expeditions for children, ages 6 to 8, will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow to Friday at the center in Pylesville.

Participants will explore insects, reptiles and amphibians, woodland animals, plants and trees while learning all about the wonders of water.

The program fee is $65 for nonmembers; $55 for members.

Registration is required.

A Native Cultures Summer Camp for children ages 9 to 12 will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 5 through Aug. 8 at the center.

Students will experience Native American skills in this camp.

They will learn the ancient arts of fire making and stone etching, play Native America games and end the week with a caving expedition to Wind Caves near Lancaster, Pa.

The fee is $65 for nonmembers; $55 for members.

Registration is required.

Come picnic in the center's park at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 9 followed by a Family Pow Wow from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This evening of Native American fun will include games and stories around the campfire.

The fee is $8 per member family; $10 per nonmember family.

Registration is required.

Explore the historic gristmill and browse among its displays during open house from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays now through October.
