Pharmacy discount program available

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene started enrollment in the Maryland Pharmacy Discount Program Tuesday.

People who are enrolled in Medicare and meet income guidelines are eligible.

The program helps Maryland residents pay for prescription drugs at a discount of 35 percent from the state's cost.

There is a $1 processing fee, no fee to join, no monthly premium and no annual benefit limit.

An applicant's assets are not counted in determining eligibility.

Eligibility ceilings are based on the federal poverty level income guidelines. The current guidelines are $15,715 for a household of one and $21,210 for a two-member household.
