Children's series to feature concert by Tom Vincent
The Carroll County Arts Council's Children's Summer Concert Series opens at 11 a.m. Thursday with musical performer Tom Vincent.
The renowned children's entertainer will bring his traditional and original songs, performed with voice and acoustic guitar, to the stage.
"I always try to give the kids something more to do than merely sit on their hands and listen," Vincent said. "When it's done right, audiences go away feeling like they were part of the performance."
The show runs approximately one hour. Admission is $2 for children and $3 for adults.
The Carroll Arts Center is at 91 W. Main St., Westminster. Information: 410-848-7272.
Arts council accepting works for local show
The Carroll County Arts Council, in partnership with the Carroll County Artists Guild, will hold the first Members Art Show.
Organizers hope the exhibit will become an annual tradition at the Carroll Arts Center as a unique celebration of talent and showcase of diverse artistic styles.
Arts council members age 18 and older are invited to enter a piece of their artwork. The exhibit will be on view from Aug. 14 to Sept. 26 in the Tevis Gallery. Local artists who are not members may join now in order to be eligible for the exhibit.
Two-dimensional works such as paintings, drawings, photography and fine printmaking, as well as three-dimensional sculpture and fine crafts, will be accepted. Works can be for sale or display only.
Judge Jill Dodson will award cash prizes in several categories. Dodson is a nationally recognized painter whose work has been widely collected and published. She is a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and is co-chairwoman of its En Plein Air Painting Program.
All artists must register by Aug. 1. No walk-ins will be accepted.
