Carol S. Lyon, founder of a Florida yacht management and vessel documentation company and a former Forest Park resident, died of respiratory failure Thursday at a hospital in Naples, Fla. She was 57.
She was born Carol Zaller in New York City and later moved to Baltimore, where she graduated from Forest Park High School.
Before moving to Naples in 1980, she had worked as a bookkeeper and at the Social Security Administration headquarters in Woodlawn.
After moving to Florida, she established Maritime Services Group, a yacht management company and vessel documentation firm.
She was a founding member of the American Vessel Documentation Association and was a member of International Women in Boating. She was also a past director of the Marine Industry Association of Collier County, Fla., and an active member of the Marine Industry Association of Florida.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Hodges Funeral Chapel in Naples.
She is survived by her husband, Capt. Lee E. Lyon; a son, Reuben P. Rothman of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Dr. Jeffrey Zaller of Columbia; a stepson, Devin Lyon of Columbus, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Leanna Everett of Stuart, Fla., and Tammie Lyon of Cincinnati; and several nephews and nieces. Her first husband, Sheldon Rothman, died in 1970.
