Mrs. Griffith, the former Helen Martha White, was born in Queen Anne's County, MD in 1919, the daughter of William Hepbron White and the former Florence Mae Chance. Her husband, Romulus Riggs Griffith IV preceded her in death in 1992. A former resident of Wilmington, DE and Baltimore, MD, her death occurred in State College, PA where she has resided for the past 2 years. She was educated in the public schools of Queen Anne's County and is a 1940 graduate of Western Maryland College. Her working career was with the E.I. duPont de Nemours Company in Wilmington. While a resident of Baltimore, Mrs. Griffith was active in the National Society of Colonial Dames, the English Speaking Union, the Garden Club and was a volunteer with the Maryland Historical Society. Survivors include two stepchildren, R. Riggs Griffith V of State College, PA and Sarah W. Griffith of Tucson, AZ as well as a niece Mrs. Patricia W. Tarr, two nephews, John P. White and William S. White all residents of the Eastern Shore. Also, surviving are cousins Mrs. William B Towner of Fort Meyers, FL, Mrs. F. Wayne High of Atlanta, GA and Mr. William A. McFarland of Centerville. A brother, John Pershing White of Centerville, MD died in 1992. Funeral services and interment at Green Mount Cemetery will be private.
